A Day-long Tech Event for All Middle Schoolers and High Schoolers in the Greater Memphis Area!

About the Event
Date: Saturday, October 4th, 2025
Time: 8:30am - 2:30pm (Registration at 8:30am)
Place: White Station High School,

Memphis, TN

Description: Students from 14 different schools participated in the event throughout the day. We had the 3 different grade groups (6th and 7th, 8th and 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th) for the students to compete in and two levels in each grade group (beginner and advanced). The competition (hackathon) went on for close to 3 hours. We also hosted two different workshops: one on AI and one on Website Design. These were hands-on workshops where the students were encouraged to follow along with the activities the presenter was doing. For the AI workshop our presenter was a Software Engineer from Amazon, and for our Website Design workshop our presenter was Mr. Walz, a computer science teacher at White Station. We also hosted logic puzzle games throughout the day for students to play and win prizes. We provided donuts and other snacks for the students for breakfast and pizza for lunch.​

Hackathon Levels:

6th and 7th Grade Advanced Level: Challenge using written code or block code.

6th and 7th Grade Beginner Level: No coding skills required.

8th and 9th Grade Advanced Level: Challenge using written code or block code.

Summer Python Code Camp
June - July 2025
Partnered with Innovate Memphis and hosted 8 different summer camps across 6 different Memphis Libraries and virtually. Taught an intro to Python using Pything Sandbox. 60+ students participated across all the camps, and we gave out prizes and certificates to students.

April 2025
Taught block coding using Scratch to Kingsbury Middle School students. At the end of the lesson, students used skills learned to compete in a challenge to win gift cards!






Computational Thinking Activities - Middle School
December 2024
Organized computational thinking activities to encourage interest in computer science for students at Kingsbury Middle School, Cordova Middle School, and Maxine Smith STEAM Academy. Students won gift cards at the end of the event.

Description: This is a timed competition for all high school students in the Greater Memphis Area. It gives students a chance to learn more about computer science and showcase their skills in a fun and exciting way. Students can compete in one of three levels: an advanced level, an intermediate level, and a beginner level.

Advanced Level: Solve challenges using written code
​
Intermediate Level: Solve challenges using either block code or written code
​
Beginner Level: No coding skills required. Computers and other electronic devices will not be allowed in this level.

This was our club's first hackathon and also a first for White Station High School! We had 15+ student participants, and gave away $250 in prizes sponsored by Chick-fil-A. Read about the event in our school newspaper.
